Kylie visits Coastal Horse Care Unit

Kylie & friends took time out from riding over the long weekend to help out at the Coastal Horse Unit based in Cato Ridge, Durban. The unit rescues needy ponies and horses and re-homes them to suitable horse-loving families.
Whilst her brother Ryan made friends with Tod, the orphan foal, Kylie and Chantelle got stuck into cleaning water and feed buckets [...]

Happy Ending

Gem threw her little frothy as you know at a show 2 weeks ago..she just got herself over excited..just wasn’t settled..and Kylie said she wasn’t listening to her at all so we didn’t jump and took her home.   I sneakily put a scoop of calm mix in the morning feed the next time she rode…didn’t [...]

Not a Good Show

Not a great report for you this time.. think the hols have thrown things out of wack..Kylie didn’t ride on saturday’s show as planned. Gem seemed a bit offish when we arrived at the stables..but she was quiet..not hyped. However, within half an hour of getting to the show she got unsually fidgety and wasn’t listening, and, [...]

Gem’s dressage show

The first Sanef schools show was very enjoyable for both myself and Gem. We both enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and it was great to meet other schools riders..and Gem enjoyed socialising with the other horses and ponies too!    This was the first time we’d competed at the stadium arena in Durban, and, we were first [...]

Well, after a break for the usual AHS and all the rain we’ve had (timed it right this year) we finally managed to get in some training again.. Gem’s going nicely and we’re gearing up for the first Sanef schools event to be held in KZN in January..we’re entered in Dressage, Equitation & Showjumping so will be a [...]

Gem’s pony club friends

Gem had a visit from the Westville Senior Primary School Pony Club this weekend. The day began with a quick look around the stable yard and then it was straight to the dirty work with some ‘mucking out’.

For some of the children it was the first time they’d been near such a big animal, so [...]

Gem’s ‘Sunday Best’ show success

Gem got spruced up on Sunday, looking really smart with her mane all plaited and brand new Herbal Horse Numnah.. As always she was keen to jump and was entered into the 70 cm and 80 cm classes.

In the 70cm precision & speed Gem took 3rd place, with just 1 second between all three placings and just 1/1ooth of a [...]

Barefoot Gem

Gem & I went to the Summerveld Jockey academy show this weekend. This is only Gem’s third time jumping ‘barefoot’ in an event and she’s going well…in fact, she jumped so big I think I’ll be needing super glue to keep me in the saddle! Some thought we were crazy to take an 11 yr old [...]

Hi my name is Gem,

I am a ‘hot chick’ 11 year old chestnut mare living in Summerveld, Durban. Yes, of course, I’m an ex-race horse..my racing name was Thief of Hearts and I left some of those geldings standing, let me tell you! After my racing days I lived with Bianca Roberts, who introduced me to [...]
