  1. Hi Beryl, I purchased a small bag (500g) of the calm mix for my mare (21years old). Sheis usually not a fussy eater at all, but she wouldn’t touch the food with the calm mix in it. Is there a way of disguising the smell? I was thinking of otherwise mixing it with some water and then using a syringe to squirt it into her mouth. would that work?
A little bit of history too: I have a gelging too and am taking him to his first show this weekend. The mare is retired but she gets very upset when I am riding my boy – I have to keep her in the stable while I am riding or else she charges around the paddock. As it it she calls for him constantly, even though she can see him from the stable. As I only have the 2 horses, I will take the mare to my neighbour’s while I am at the show. I wanted to to put her on the calm mix so that the situation does not stress her out too much. Leaving her at home, I think will be even worse for her – at least at my neighbour’s she will be near several other horses. Are there any other ideas that you may have to lessen the stress on her?
    Thanks
    Nikki

  2. Sometimes horses do just turn up their noses. You need to get a bit creative – a paste into a syringe, a bit of molasses, germ meal, etc. For my daughter’s pony, I just chuck it into the back of the mouth – being a powder, it sticks and most of it gets swallowed eventually. Good luck.
Also, yes, I agree your girl would be happier at your neighbour. Maybe the night before and the morning of the event, give her double dose.
