Fly bites

Question:

Hi,

We have a dun horse who gets sores from fly bites every year. We use "Skin So Soft" by Avon which works well but it needs to be applied daily. Our vet recommended Garlic. Someone else said they give garlic and rosemary. What is your opinion on this matter? Mr Odom ( horse) needs your help.

Thanks,
Kim Bynum

Answer:

Hi Kim,

I would agree with your vet. Garlic fed internally seems to make the horse's skin unappetising to flies! Rosemary - I haven't heard of this being effective. If I were you, I'd start feeding garlic and keep on applying the So Soft or something like Calendula cream (Weleda makes a good one).
